The Heart and Soul of the Giro d’Italia
Our 2017 Fondriest Tour was a huge success so we’re visiting Maurizio in Italy again in 2018.
Join the Mega Bike team for 10 days in the Dolomites and Italian Alps with Maurizio Fondriest. Climb the legendary Stelvio and Mortirolo, follow Maurizio to some of his favourite climbs.
We’ll also visit Fancesco Moser’s winery and amazing bike museum.
Days 1-5: The Dolomites
The 2018 Fondriest Tour will start in Cles. Please book your flight to Milan’s Malpensa airport. We’ll pick you up at the airport and take you to our MilanHotel.
Our tour will begin on Monday 18 June when we’ll travel from Milan to our first base in Cles, the home of former Road World Champion Maurizio Fondriest.
Cles is in the province of Trentino in North Eastern Italy and the perfect place to acclimatize and get ready for the Italian Alps. Surrounded by the Dolomites, Trentino is the meeting place between northern and southern Europe and hosts a rich artistic, historical, and cultural heritage.
Maurizio, will meet us in Cles and guide some of our rides in the Dolomites which will average between 80 and 100 kilometres per day. While in Cles we will also visit Francesco Moser’s winery and amazing bike museum.
Days 6-10: The Italian Alps
Day 6 starts with a picturesque transfer from Cles to our second base in Bormio in the Italian Alps.
Situated in the Stelvio National Park, Bormio is a tourist hot spot in winter and summer. Well known since Roman times for its thermal baths, Bormio offers some of the world’s best known climbs.
The Stelvio and the Gavia passes are included in most editions of the Giro d’Italia and the proximity of other famous climbs such as the Mortirolo, Foscagno, Eira and Umbrail means that our week in Bormio will allow you to ride a new and challenging route every single day.
Rides in the Alps will average 100 kilometres per day with 2000-3000 metres of climbing. We’ll offer three different options for each of the climbs so everyone can brag that they’ve climbed the icons.
After breakfast on Day 11 we will provide transfers to the Bormio train station in Tirano so you can make your way to the airport for the next leg of your journey or to return home.
