Maurizio Fondriest was born in Cles (Trento) in the heart of the Val di Non on 15 January 1965. The winner of the World Championships at the young age of 23, he won the world cycling cup in ’91 and ’93, the mythical Milan – San Remo in 1993, and collected countless success during his career both in traditional championships as was as stages in the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.
After dedicating his professional career to sport, when he retired from professional cycling, he put his family first, but continues to provide advice and the benefits of his vast experience to numerous up and coming young cyclists.
In retirement, Maurizio put his cycling passion into the creation of bikes and ever since he put his name on the first Fondriest frames, he realised that every single detail of the bicycle would have to reflect his personality and professionalism.
Over the last 20 years he has registered several patents because he has always believed in research and development and every new idea that comes to life is a new challenge.
Mega Bike is proud to have been associated with Fondriest since the brand arrived in Australia in 2010. Our passion for the brand as led to numerous collaborations including Maurizio’s visit to Australia and the Tour Down Under in 2015 and our 2017 and 2019 Fondriest Tours, co-hosted by Maurizio.
